- Most students socialize by going to bars and parties. Although there is also a large sporting culture, going to sporting events is less common.
- Drinking is acceptable, even encouraged. Smoking is banned in public (covered) places and is frowned upon. Excessive drunkenness is not condoned.
- When it comes to dating, both guys and girls will ask each other out. Both tend to ask without asking thus lowering the chance of rejection.
- People tend to socialize informally and get to know each other before formalizing the relationship.
- Dating in NZ usually means being exclusive.
- Good things for a first date: dinner, going to the beach for the day, going to a bar, party, often these would be with friends to begin with.
- A date (i.e. dinner with just two) would imply that you want to be alone and would possibly/probably lead to physical intimacy
- Unacceptable would be an outing with all of your guy mates (for a guy) or vice versa. If going on an outing there needs to be a mix of genders and people so that both of you feel comfortable. A work function is probably out as well.
