Peruvian culture is still known as being rather macho, with the men being the bread earners and the women staying at home with the cooking, cleaning and kids.  However, it is becoming more and more acceptable for women to work outside the home and women can be found in any professional field. 

It is very rare that the husband will cook meals, often leaving all the cooking to the wife.

Work opportunities for women are varied and available depending on social class although salaries still tend to be lower

Women are still expected to do most if not all of the cooking, cleaning, and child rearing.
