Drinking is acceptable and common, as is smoking and chewing betel nut. Men are commonly drunk in public, and should be avoided if possible.

Men usually ask women out, and tend to be very forward. Palauan women are decidedly not shy in general and almost expect men to be aggressive, but might ask men out also.

A good first date would be dinner, although it seems that oftentimes couples see each other in secret for awhile before they let their families know. However, these are very small islands so don’t expect to get away with much without everyone knowing.
