- In the capital, most students socialize by going to clubs. In smaller towns, students tend to hang out at the local "bar" and drink Toka Gasy, an alcoholic beverage which is home brewed, Gold Beer or THB beer (the 2 beers in , both Malagasy).
- It is more acceptable for men to drink in public although there are some women who do so as well.
- Many men seem to have more than one girlfriend, even after marriage. This is not the same for women, although some do the same.
- Men tend not to be too forward and it is "expected" for a girl to play "hard to get".
- If you are not interested in a person who's trying to get your attention, be up front about it and let him (very rarely her) know you're not interested, otherwise, it will seem that you are playing hard to get and it will most likely only get worse.
