Most students socialize by attending what are known as diwaniyas. These are separate rooms for socializing that were traditionally used for men on a weekly basis to discuss politics. They have been adopted by the youth to hang out with friends, watch movies, play video games, etc. There are parties to attend but the most common forms of socializing amongst the youth are smoking sheesha(hookah/water-pipe), going out to dinner at one of the many restaurants, or going to the mall and/or movies.

Drinking is illegal, but smoking is accepted. More so for men than women.

There are strict social standards for interaction between men and women and when/if it comes to dating, men do the majority of the asking. Typical dates when/if they happen, include going to the movies and/or going to dinner.
